Age 100, of Bridgewater, NJ, formerly of Shaler Twp. on March 31, 2018
Born Apri 25th, 1917 in Pittsburgh, PA she was the daughter of the late Charles and Laura Liederman of Lawrenceville, PA. who moved to Glenshaw when Laura IRENE was a young girl.
She was the beloved wife of Ralph (Obie) Obenauf; devoted mother of Ralph H. Obenauf, Jr. and wife, Joanne of Bridgewater, NJ and Saint Petersburg, FL; and proud grandmother of Ryan Ralph Obenauf and wife, Lo Lanier, and Alex Joseph Obenauf, and wife, Megan Desrosiers. She was thrilled to be the great grandmother of Jillian Matilde and Mila Violette. She was grateful for her caregiver and close friend of many years, Charlene Jacob.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Adele Streeter and Jeanne Goss. She spent most of her life as a resident of Shaler before moving to New Jersey to be near her son. She was a longtime member of Elfinwild Presbyterian Church, where she served in a number of capacities. She retired from the Shaler Township Office in 1979.
She and her husband, Ralph, enjoyed dancing, music, and serving in the Elfinwild Fire Company. After retirement she devoted herself to companionship and care of her mother, Laura, in addition to traveling to many places around the world.
Always graceful, until God called her home, she will be remembered as a woman of quiet strength. An independent woman since Ralph’s death in 1977, she sacrificed her needs for the good of her family. She loved music. Her faviorite songs, “Good Night Irene” and “I Did It My Way” are a wonderful reminder of whom she was.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 14th from 10 am – 11 am at the Elfinwild Presbyterian Church, 3200 Mt. Royal Boulevard, Glenshaw, followed by services at the church and interment at Mt. Royal Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at Wildwood Country Club after interment.
The family will welcome memorials to the Elfinwild Volunteer Fire Department, 2817 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw, PA 15116.
