Alice Sara Brashear

Age 83, of Glenshaw, formerly of Ross Twp., passed away on Saturday March 19, 2016 at Vincentian Home cradled in her husband's arms after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was the beloved and cherished wife of Joseph Oscar Brashear; and devoted, loving mother of Jean Alice (Christopher) Bayer of Virginia, Jeffrey Joseph (Michele) Brashear of Maryland, Karen Ann (Kenneth) Landau of Pittsburgh and Barbara Colette (Dr. Edward) Weir of Texas. She was the proud and loving grandmother of Emma (Richard) Watkins, Andrew, Daniel, and John Bayer; Morgan and Joseph II Brashear; Matthew and Peter Landau; and Isabel and Odessa Weir and great grandmother of Joseph Watkins. Alice had a strong catholic faith which she practiced by prayer and example as the spiritual center of her family's life. She continued this influence to her ten grandchildren. She is also survived by sister Marion Ann (Arthur John, deceased) Brunner, and their family. She was preceded in death by her parents, George P. and Mary Margaret Winter Bailey of Ross Twp. While attending high school at St. Benedict Academy, Alice was a Teen Fashion Model at Kaufmanns Department Store in Pittsburgh. After graduation, she worked for U.S. Steel Corp. as a typist and as an executive secretary to the vice president of sales for the Blaw-Knox Company (formerly Continental Foundry and Mill Machine Company). After life-saving surgery for Crohn's Disease, she wanted to give back and so volunteered for several years at St. Margaret Hospital. She had a life long interest in sewing and as an accomplished seamstress, she found joy and satisfaction as she designed and made clothes for herself and then for her children and grandchildren. Alice was a member of St. Bonaventure Parish in Glenshaw for 55 years where she was active in the People of god prayer group and Mothers in Touch.
