Edward Kocsis Obituary

Edward J. Kocsis, "EJ," of Shaler passed away on October 13, 2023 peacefully at his daughter's home, surrounded by family.

Edward was born in Pittsburgh on Sept. 24, 1947 to the late John Edward and Adele Mostowy Kocsis. He is preceeded in death by his only sibling, Joann Kocsis Valentine (Bob). After graduating from North Catholic High School in 1966, he went on to start his 30 year career at Bell Telephone/Verizon where he met his close friend Dennis Greek and retired as a Circuit Design Engineer.

Ed married Patricia Wisniewski on August 28, 1967 in Raliegh, NC and had one daughter, Kristie Gujski (George) and two beloved granddaughters, Annabel & Allie.

Ed (with his wife) built his dream home in Martin County Stuart, FL near family, Wayne and Diane Wisniewski Blythe and his nephews, Nathan & Adam (Madison). He went on to become a "snowbird", building a home in Vero Beach, FL and and renovating a home near lifelong friends Jim & Helen Berger of Clarks Mills, PA near Lake Wilhelm. Later, he and his wife settled in Shaler.

Ed had many hobbies and loved to create, design and build. He was a skilled watchman, taught by his late father. He was a skilled carpenter and could be found helping build many a shed, deck or roof with many neighbors and friends while enjoying Old German. He enjoyed running the decades long coffee club at Bell Telephone, organizing numerous picnics and Christmas parties. He enjoyed fishing, painting, and billiard competitions. He loved driving and took pride in his many vehicles. He adored animals and is playing ball in heaven with his many beloved dogs, and he is dearly missing his "Sadie Littles." In his later years, Ed enjoyed many movies, especially old John Wayne westerns and his favorite game shows: Wheel of Fortune and Jepardy.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 28th, at 10:00 AM at St Matthew Parish, All Saints Church in Etna: 19 Wilson St. Pittsburgh, PA 15223. There will be a celebration of life gathering immediately following the memorial service at his daughter's home in Ross Township. Special thanks to AHN Hospice for all the comfort, support and dignity provided by amazing women and men, especially Diana, Liz & Sherri. God bless the many unnamed beautiful people we met on this journey. Lisa, Cindy, Tasia, Denise and Terri: you are all angels.

In lieu of flowers, please change your furnace filter and fire alarm batteries, kiss your wife, hug your kids, keep your vehicles safe, and check in on your friends and neighbors; they are family too. Ed's favorite saint was St. Joseph and he always tried his best to care for his family.
