George V. Bauer

George V. Bauer, Major General, USA – Retired age 94 of Shaler Twp. Passed on June 10th, 2026. He was born on January 1, 1932, in Millvale, PA. Son of the late Adolf G. and Betty A. (Marx) Bauer. 

Beloved husband of 70 years to Dorothy A. (Boucek) Bauer. Loving father of George A. Bauer (Linda K. Klus) of St. Charles, Illinois; John J. Bauer (Natalie M. Mascari); and Beth A. Bauer (Glenn R. Porter), both of Shaler Township. Proud grandfather of Glenn M. Porter (Emily), Victoria Bauer (Brian), Brandon Bauer (Brodie), Matthew B. Porter (fiancé Laurie), Courtney Gingerich (Caleb), Michelle Duncan (Mark), Chelsea Bauer (fiancé Ryan), and Austin Bauer (fiancé Rita). Cherished great-grandfather of Mason Porter, Stevie Bauer, Asher Gingerich, Marisa and Marco Napolitano. Dear brother of David R. Bauer (Judy Leake) of Punta Gorda, Florida. 

He was a graduate of North Catholic High School - class of 1949 - and earned his degree from Duquesne University in 1953. Throughout his life, he maintained distinguished careers in both business and military service. In business, he began his career with Bennett Lumber & Manufacturing Company, where he served as a salesman from 1955 to 1966. He then joined Busy Beaver Building Centers, serving as Vice President of Purchasing and Merchandising from 1966 to 1983. From 1984 until his retirement in 1996, he served as President of Premier Business Products. 

His military career spanned 39 years in the United States Army Reserve. He enlisted in the Organized Reserve Corps in 1950 and was assigned to the 336th Military Police Battalion. Following graduation from Duquesne University, he was commissioned through the ROTC program in 1953 as a Military Police officer detailed to the Artillery Branch. From 1953 to 1955, he served on active duty as an Armored Field Artillery officer at Fort Knox, Kentucky, assigned to School Troops. 

After returning to reserve service in 1955, he rejoined the 336th Military Police Battalion and later became its Battalion Commander. In 1972, he was assigned as Provost Marshal of the 99th Army Reserve Command (ARCOM). During the following years, he held numerous leadership positions, including Chief of Personnel, Chief of Staff, Deputy Commander, and ultimately Commanding General of the 99th U.S. Army Reserve Command in Oakdale, Pennsylvania. He retired from the United States Army Reserve in 1989 with the rank of Major General after 39 years of honorable service. In recognition of his exceptional leadership and dedication, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal. 

Friends will be received on Tuesday, June 16, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Neely Funeral Home, 2208 Mount Royal Boulevard, Glenshaw, PA 15116. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 17, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Parish, St. Bonaventure Church, 2001 Mount Royal Boulevard, Glenshaw, PA 15116. Everyone Please Meet At Church.
