Joseph Schewe, Jr.

Joseph Schewe, Jr. age 88 of Sherwood Oaks formerly of McCandless on July 14, 2022.  

Husband of the late Margaret A. Schewe.  

Father of Jennifer Husek (Scott) and David J. Schewe (Liezl).  

Grandfather of Logan Husek and Blaise Husek.  

Son of the late Joseph and Ida Schewe, Sr.  

Brother of the late Joan Dishart.

After graduating from Peabody High School, Joe went to the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a Bachelor's in Business Administration in 1955, and a Master's in Business Administration in 1957. He then served active duty in the Finance Corps of the U.S. Army from 1957-1959, earning the final rank of sergeant. In 1959, Joe joined PPG Industries, where he worked for 34 years, serving as the manager of Professional Employment from 1973-1992. During this time, Joe was a member of the Middle Atlantic Placement Agency, and served as their president from 1987-1988. Joe then worked for nine more years at Carnegie Mellon University, where he served as the associate director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. He retired in 2004.

Joe was a ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church, USA, at Parkwood Church for 17 years, where he also served as treasurer. He was also a regular volunteer at Animal Friends Pittsburgh from 2005-2017, and served as the treasurer of the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, becoming emeritus director in 2012. 

A loving, kind, gentle and generous man, Joe will be missed by all.

Visitation Monday 2-4 and 6 until the time of the service at 7:30 PM at Neely Funeral Home, 2208 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw.
