Martha Irene Garasic

Martha Irene Galicia Garasic, age 77, of Hampton Township died on April 14, 2022, after a long battle with Frontal Temporal Degradation (FTD). Born in Youngstown, Ohio, on February 2, 1945, Irene graduated from Youngstown State University in 1966 with honors, majoring in education. She did additional course work at Westminster College and continuing education in Geriatrics and Sign Language at York College. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. 

After teaching kindergarten in Youngstown, Martha Irene became famous for “Martha’s Tutoring,” helping local students to achieve their best for over 35 years. Her students fondly called her “Mrs. G.” 

Martha Irene loved decorating her home, modeling and shopping at Chicos, and being with her family. She was a quintessential people person, making and keeping friendships wherever she went. She loved socializing with her friends, keeping in touch with notes, cards and phone calls. Her parties were legendary; she loved to plan them, paying attention to every detail and making everyone feel welcome and connected. A devoted parishioner at St. Mary of the Assumption Worship Site, she taught Faith Formation, was an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, and volunteered at various parish activities. 

Above all, Martha Irene was devoted to her family. She was married to Thomas Garasic for 55 years. She was the mother of Christine Wateska (Jack), Michael Garasic (Leslie) and Suzanne Bucierka (Theodore). She adored her grandchildren, Alexis, Sofiya and Regan, and loved taking them on outings and sharing special moments with each of them when they visited. 

Martha Irene was preceded in death by her parents John and Murial Galicia. 

Visitation will take place at the Neely Funeral Home, 2208 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw, on Wednesday, April 20, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. 

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 21 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 2510 Middle Road, Glenshaw, PA 15116. The family requests that everyone meet at the church.
