Michael John Cavanaugh, 70, of Shaler Township, passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a long and courageous battle with Lewy body dementia. Michael was preceded in death by his Mother, Margaret Mary Meinert, and his stepfather Sylvester (Wes) Meinert, his brother Thomas, sister Donna Cavanaugh, and Diane Easterday. Michael was a member of local laborers union 1058 for 40 years until he retired in 2017. Michael cherished his family and loved his nieces and nephews as if they were his own. His passions in life were attending Sunday mass at Saint Bonaventure, poker games on Saturday nights with friends, taking long walks in his community of Shaler, and doing everything he could for his family.
Michael is survived by his brothers, Terry (Ginny), Billy, Timmy Cavanaugh and David (Roberta) Meinert. His sisters, Peggy (Mike) Rogers, Mary (Dave) Hoak, Christine Cerniglia, Nancy (Mike) Bishop, Rose Mary (Steve) Cunic, Debbie (Dan) Droz. Michael had 15 cherished nieces and nephews, and 14 great nieces and nephews. Visitation Sunday October 1st from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Neely Funeral Home, 2208 Mt. Royal Blvd. Glenshaw. Funeral Mass Monday October 2nd at 10 AM at St. Matthew Parish, St. Bonaventure Church. Everyone Please Meet At Church.
