Obituary

Nona Jeannine Dunlap (Hadwiger) died on August 21, 2023, age 84, of Hampton Township, was born on February 21, 1939, in Alva, Oklahoma.  Nona was the first daughter of Russel and Viola Hadwiger (Easterling), and for the first few years of her life she lived with her parents in Sharon, Kansas.  The Hadwiger family moved to Southern California in 1943, first to the Los Angeles area, but eventually settling in Redlands, California, where Nona’s sister, Rita, was born.  Nona was a talented pianist even as a little girl, giving her first recital at the age of five.  After graduating from Redlands High School in 1956, she attended college and graduated from San Diego State University in 1960, with her degree in Elementary Education, following both of her parents as public school teachers.  She then began her teaching career in the San Diego Public School System.  She met her future husband, Marvin Richard “Dick” Dunlap in San Diego, and they were married in Redlands, California, on November 23, 1963, the day after the assassination of President John Kennedy.  The newly married couple then moved to Florida, where her husband worked at Cape Canaveral and Nona continued her teaching career at the Merritt Island Elementary School.  In 1967, they were again transferred, this time back to San Diego, where her husband attended law school and Nona gave birth to a daughter, Mitzi, and a son, Charles.  After her husband graduated from law school in 1971, the young family moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where her husband joined the law firm of Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, and Nona devoted her time to raising the children.  After first living in Ross Township, they moved to Hampton Township in 1977.  Both of their children graduated from Hampton High School. She was a long time member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Hampton.

In addition to her sister, Rita Reading (Scott) of Redlands, California, Nona is survived by Marvin “Dick” Dunlap, her husband of nearly 60 years, two children, Charles Dunlap (Julie) of Fishers, Indiana, Mitzi Dunlap Sorrells (Stephen) of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, and two grandchildren, Sarah and Sam Dunlap of Fishers, Indiana.
