Dr. Paul Warren Dishart, MD
Founding Father of Medical Education at UPMC St. Margaret Hospital
August 12, 1933- November 5, 2021
Dr. Paul Warren Dishart, 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 5, 2021.
Paul dedicated his life of service primarily to the field of Medicine as Founder and Director of Medical Education at St. Margaret Memorial Hospital/UPMC St. Margaret since its inception (along with the late and dearly beloved Dr. James A. Ferrante) in 1965-2015.
Aside from Paul’s many achievements and accolades that contributed to the field of medicine, the best part of his calling as a Physician was teaching his deeply beloved residents, his dear colleagues who together made it possible to practice the benchmark question of what he coined as “IS THIS GOOD MEDICINE?” Above all, Paul truly loved his patients. Love guided his actions in practicing medicine and would want his former residents and future generations of Family Physicians to ask if this were how they would handle the care of their own loved ones, and “to read one article a day for the rest of their lives.” Paul would agree that patients’ health is the reason that one has the honor of being a Physician.
Son to parents Urban Dishart Sr. and Helen Bright Dishart, Paul and his two brothers (Urban Dishart (preceded in death), and Ken Dishart) grew up in Lawrenceville of Pittsburgh, PA. Paul is survived by his wife Maureen McBride Dishart, his brother Ken Dishart and his wife Joan, and his children; Mark Dishart, Brad Dishart (spouse: Jody Pavlot) and Jill Dishart Leontiadis (spouse: Nektarios Leontiadis). He also leaves behind his five adoring grandchildren, Veronica Dishart, Landon and Ellis Dishart, and Maria and Sofia Leontiadis as well as his Niece Katie and several nephews.
