Roger Beck Obituary

Roger D. Beck, age 86 of Ross Township peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 25, 2023, with Carol, his wife of 65 years, at his side.

Roger was born in Pittsburgh on December 16, 1936.  He graduated from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA with a degree in Civil Engineering.  He also earned his MBA from Duquesne University.

Roger retired in 1998 after a long and successful career as a Vice President and Assistant to the President of Duquesne Light Company.  In retirement, Roger was actively involved as a member and in leadership of many fraternal, charitable, and social organizations that serve the Western PA community.  Roger had a special heart and passion for the care of the elderly and was a proud member of the board of directors at Presbyterian Senior Care and was the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Fair Oaks of Pittsburgh retirement community.

Roger and Carol have been active members at Elfinwild Presbyterian Church in Glenshaw for over 50 years, serving in many different roles.  Their strong faith encouraged them to serve their community and to support their family and friends.

Roger enjoyed being active in the outdoors and was a meticulous caretaker of his yard.  He and Carol had a family cabin near Lewisburg and Roger loved to maintain and care for the grass with his various tractors and tools.  He found his peace and joy in tending and caring for God’s creation (and fighting off the deer!).  He loved to host his family for large events as well as his weekly Wednesday night family meal at Rico’s restaurant in Ross.  He was a season ticket holder for both the Steelers and Penguins for many years and enjoyed collecting memorabilia of his favorite teams.

Roger was a dedicated father who had a profound sense of pride in his children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren.  His greatest accomplishment was his family.  His strength and quiet confidence will be remembered and honored by his family and friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Henry A. and Myrtle Beck, and his brother Denis L. Beck.  In addition to his wife Carol E. (Keister) Beck, he is survived by his brother-in-law Ernest H. Keister Jr. of Lewisburg, PA, his three children: Barbara Michael, Beverly (Jeff) Weber, and Barry Beck, all of Pittsburgh.  He was the grandfather of Brad (Ann) Ruckle, Paige (Rob) Faria, and Payton, Raegan and Baron Beck of Pittsburgh and has 2 great grandchildren.

The family wants to express sincere appreciation to the staff of Commonwealth Hospice and Sunrise Senior Living of McCandless for the tender care and loving support during this time.
