William F. H. Garber II

We offer our sincere condolence to La Verne and the entire Garber family on the passing of Bill. We first met him when we moved to Tall Timber Drive in 1969 and have been friends ever since, not only as neighbors in Hampton Township for nearly 30 years, but later in retirement as winter neighbors in Florida. We shall always remember Bill as a friendly, knowledgeable and hospitable person. A photo, depicting one of many, many encounters, is attached.

Mr. Garber was one of my favorite teachers. He challenged us; made us think and pushed us to learn how to write and research our thoughts. His history courses and the weekly famous people searches were some of my favorite classes and his support and encouragement to me meant the world to me. In reading the other comments, it's obvious that many others felt the same way and were equally blessed by his skill and presence. I became a better student because of him and feel blessed to have had him as a teacher and mentor. My sympathies to his family and friends.

Of all the things I learned in school, the lesson that served me best in life came from Mr. Garber. He was an excellent teacher, gruff and friendly at the same time. One day he spoke about the importance of saving money and establishing good credit. Those are things a middle school kid really doesn't think much about, but he stressed how important savings and credit were in life, and even if you didn't have a high-paying job, you could save, invest carefully in the stock market, and establish good credit by borrowing responsibly and making regular, on-time payments. I can not tell you how much that lesson has influenced my life and as a result, those around me! Thank you, Mr. Garber, for your years as a teacher.

Your entire family has my deepest sympathies. Mr. Garber was my favorite teacher ever. I have posted this in the on the Hampton school website previously. I had him as a teacher when 6th grade was still at Central Elementary school (probably around 1968). He is the reason I excelled at math. I still do math computations in my mind for fun as the result of his teaching. It hurts my heart that he has passed. I am just glad that several years back I had the opportunity to tell him what a profound impact he made in my life. You only get one of these teachers in your life and he was mine. My sister and daughter are teachers and I let them know how some like Mr. Garber can make such a great impact in a students life. Thank you for sharing him with me.
