Arthur Sand, Jr. Obituary

of Allison Park, PA, passed away on August 18, 2018 after a long battle with cancer.  He was born in 1942 in Detriot, MI to Arthur J. Sand Sr. and Helen Cameron Sand.  He is survived by his wife Patricia Moen Sand; Son, Scott and his wife Tonya (Tilden) Sand; grandchildren Gabriel Wren and Alice Willow Sand of Pittsburgh, PA; Sisters, Ellen Bredow, and Susan Shelton (John) who reside in Michigan. Preceeded in death by his son Adam Sand (surviving wife Aria Birang Sand) of Santa Barbara, CA.

Arthur graduated from Henry Ford High School in 1960.  Upon graduating from Western Michigan in 1964, he entered the Army attending Infantry Officers School and Airborne School in Ft. Benning, GA., Jungle Warfare Operations in the Panama Canal Zone.  He served with the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star as one of three March Unit Commanders on the first infiltration covey ever conducted on Thunder Road. Upon leaving the Army in 1967, he worked for J.L. Hudson Co. in Detriot, MI, spent 18 years with Wickes Lumber in Saginaw, MI, Illinois, and California, and retired in 2008 after 20 years with Busy Beaver Building Materials in Pittsburgh, PA, where he served as Vice President. 

No visitation, service and interment private. Many thanks the the Doctors and Nurses at UPMC Pittsburgh and his many friends who helped Art with his battle.  Contributions can be made to the Sarcoma Foundation of America.
