Samuel Clay Bernesser, age 86, at home with family in Shaler Township.
Born February 02, 1936. Son of the late Lawrence and Hazel (Clay) Bernesser. Brother of Nancy and the late Gertrude, Lawrence, David, and Patty. Beloved Pap of Mike (Tina) and Dee. Affectionately 'Ham' to his many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his wife, Donna, forever his 'buddy,' who he loved and missed so dearly despite a diminished memory, and with whom he kept a lovely home and garden. They were beautiful together.
Was drafted into the Navy fresh out of high school and was proud to have served aboard the Tarawa, Leyte, and Independence.
Known for his sharp wit, soft heart, and lively sense of humor. Sam lived a happy life, blessing all around him with the joys of laughter. There were no dry eyes when he and siblings were together. He caught a lot of fish, drank a lot of beer, loved going to camp with his friends and his family. Was the gracious host of many a fish fry. Could carry a tune and his sweet tooth was insatiable. A lifelong football fan and former Etna Ram. Sam loved, and was loved in return.
